“Well I meant to call you back, but just was busy. It’s the thought that counts though right?” I looked at her and thought “No bitch, it’s not” It was unusual for me to think a curse word let alone curse. But I was exhausted, working three jobs, not quite 19 years old and about to enter my second year of college. I had just slept in my newly leased car for an hour after working a graveyard shift because my roommate had messaged me not to come home for the three hours I had before going to my THIRD gig of the weekend. She and her boyfriend had decided to hook up at our place instead of his. And then changed their minds and went to his. WTF It was my first time hearing that phrase. And over the years since then I’ve heard it way too much.
I meant to apologize I meant to clean up I meant to go to the gym I meant to show up I meant to tell you I meant to offer I’m calling BULLSH!T. Yesterday I hosted a Friendsgiving and it was PURE JOY. I posted on my social media, and sent out invites. All were welcome to this come as you are, when you are able, spend what time you have, free event. One of my guests hugged me as he was leaving and commented “I know I just met you last week for a minute, but when I saw you were doing this I thought ‘omg everyone talks about reaching out and then doesn’t.’ So thank you for this.” I was flattered that he took the time to show appreciation. I understand what it is like to not have a place to go, or to want to spend the time with like-minded peeps. So many have offered me hospitality over the years. It is my absolute PLEASURE to do so when I am able. But I get what he means. All over social media I was seeing people post about REMEMBERING others were alone and needed places to go. But when I quietly asked a few behind the scenes how they were helping they answered “well I posted about it so people will think about it.” No my luvs the thought does not help. ACTION does. You want to change the world, start with you. Personal growth and transformation begins with you getting out of bed and DOING something. World change starts with you reaching out, connecting, and taking measurable definable ACTION. Even if it’s something as simple as not walking by the piece of trash, but picking it up and throwing it away. Not just thinking “we really need to clean up this planet”. You know the only way I will know that you are thinking about me is?
You want to understand the only way you will get fit and healthy?
You ponder the only way we will have political leaders who are kind, considerate, intelligent, and work on creating a global community?
You hope the world will become a better place with people showing positivity and light?
You desire a life full of passion?
No my luvs, it is not the thought that counts. It is what you DO that makes a difference. You want to make a change in your life, the life of others, the world? Then in the words of Nike "Just Do It." Luv and light and (the raw ufiltered) truth xoxoxo Tink
